beautiful days in the Tannheim Valley...
Skating – cross-country skiing in the Tannheimer Tal
70km of skating trails
Cross-country skiers will enjoy the Tannheimer Tal. A total of around 140 kilometres of cross-country ski trails, all groomed and prepared, are waiting for you here. The flat bottom of the valley is perfect for this sport and some of the trails even lead to the neighbouring Allgäu.
The skating technique
Different to the “classic” style, whereby the skis are gliding next to each other in the parallel cross-country ski runs, the skating style is a bit less restricted. The so called “skate step” works on firm and solid snow. The skis alternate in a certain angle to the left and the right. The equipment is also partly different.
Skating cross-country ski trails in the Tannheimer Tal
The Tannheimer Tal is a true gold mine for every cross-country skier with around 140 kilometres of trails and prepared runs. Many of the trails are suitable for both techniques, some are only open for skaters. Here are some tour tips:
- Expert tour: Bogen-Jungbrunn: this relatively short skating trail is still quite challenging with a length of 2.3km
- SKI-TRAILS circular trail: in January this trail becomes a venue for a great contest; the rest of the winter this 31km long tour is perfect for endurance cross-country skiers
- Lake Vilsalpsee circular trail: this 12.5km long and easy trail runs right through the wonderful natural reserve with a maximum altitude difference of 80m
Look forward to carefree cross-country skiing fun from early December to early January and get to know this first-class cross-country skiing resort – for skating or classic.
